A thigh strain has
forced Brazil midfielder Alex to pull of his country's squad for the
FIFA Confederations Cup. Ronaldo who needed a rest is not included as
well as regulars R.Carlos and Cafu. Brazil are intent on bringing their
strongest possible side to the championship to avoid a repetition of
their disappointing performance in 2003, when they were eliminated in
the first round.
Greece captain
Theodoros Zagorakis
is back for their opening Confederations
Cup match against Brazil on Thursday.
Zagorakis
was expected to miss Greece's first two matches of the tournament to
take part in Bologna's relegation playoff battle against Parma but the
Italian side released him on Monday. Also missing are defender Traianos
Dellas, who is recovering from hernia surgery, as well as defender
Mihalis Kapsis, who is suffering from leg injuries. Striker Zisis Vryzas,
who
suffered a hand injury in a relegation match for his Spanish side Celto
Vigo on Sunday
will play after all with a protective cast covering his fractured left
hand. He was not initially expected to be fit to play.
