Analysis & Previews

Czech Republic midfielder Vladimir Smicer has benn ruled out of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against the Dutch. He joins strikers Jan Koller and Vratislav Lokvenc on coach Karel Brueckner's injury list. Hamburg SV midfielder David Jarolim received his first senior call-up. Striker Milan Baros and midfielder Tomas Galasek are both carrying knocks but expected to play. Striker Milan Baros has given the Czech Republic a boost by declaring himself fit for Saturday's World Cup qualifier. Coach Karel Brueckner's side trail Group One leaders Holland by four points, but are two points ahead of third-placed Romania. They need at least two points to make it to the play-offs in November.

Dutch midfielder Philip Cocu starts a two-match ban after being sent off during Holland World Cup qualifier win over Andorra earlier this month. He will miss his country's last two qualifiers against the Czech Republic in Prague on October 8 and at home to Macedonia four days later. The Dutch lead their group with 28 points and need a draw against the Czechs, who are second with 24 points, to secure their qualification for next year's finals in Germany.

Probable lineup:

Czech Republic: Petr Cech; Zdenek Grygera, David Rozehnal, Tomas Ujfalusi, Pavel Mares; Karel Poborsky, Tomas Galasek, Tomas Rosicky, Jan Polak, Jiri Stajner; Milan Baros.

Holland: Edwin van der Sar, Jan Kromkamp, Khalid Boulahrouz, Barry Opdam, Giovanni van Bronckhorst; Denny Landzaat, Hedwiges Maduro, Rafael van der Vaart; Dirk Kuijt, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben.

Referee: Alain Sars (France)
