Switzerland coach
Koebi Kuhn has omitted playmaker Hakan Yakin from the squad. He has been
out of action for eight weeks with a thigh injury but had hoped to be
fit for the playoffs after recently returning to training. Yakin's elder
brother Murat is also unavailable, having added an inflamed sciatic
nerve to his long list of injury problems. Kuhn will instead rely on
virtually the same squad as he chose for the last two World Cup
qualifying matches against France and the Republic of Ireland. Sochaux
midfielder Johann Lonfat is the only addition to the squad - having
earned a recall after missing the last four qualifiers.
Turkey coach Fatih
Terim named a 29-man squad on Monday. Newcastle midfielder Emre
Belozoglu and Schalke 04's Hamit Altintop are both suspended for the
first, away leg of the playoff. Injured Besiktas midfielder Ibrahim Akin
will miss as well. Hertha Berlin's Yildiray Basturk is also unavailable
because of a groin injury but will probably re-join the squad for the
second leg on November 16.
