Analysis & Previews |

Aleksei Eremenko has
been excluded from Finland squad for this week's World Cup qualifier
against the Czech Republic after he became a suspect in a police
investigation. Midfielder Aki Riihilahti, as well as defenders Petri
Pasanen and Hannu Tihinen and forward Henri Scheweleff will not play
because of injury. Finland are fourth in Group One with 16 points from
11 games and cannot qualify for Germany next year but the Czechs need a
win over Finland to secure second place in the group behind the Dutch. If Finland avoid defeat by the Czech Republic in Helsinki, Romania will secure second place in Group One without kicking a ball having already finished their qualifying campaign. The Romanians, who won 1-0 in Finland on Saturday, were given a helping hand by the Dutch who qualified as group winners after beating the Czechs 2-0 in Prague. The Czechs are third in Group One, one point behind Romania, who have played all of their qualifiers. Group leaders, the Netherlands, have qualified for next years finals in Germany. Striker Milan Baros who has been hampered in recent weeks by an Achilles injury, missed training as the Czech Republic prepared for their final World Cup qualifier in Finland on Wednesday, which they must win to clinch a playoff place. With strikers Jan Koller and Vratislav Lokvenc already out, the Aston Villa player was forced to start against Holland in Saturday's 2-0 defeat. Defender Marek Jankulovski is still missing after getting hurt in a 2-0 loss at Romania six weeks ago. Vladimir Smicer is likely to start despite a nagging thigh injury.
Probable lineup:
Finland: Jussi Jaaskelainen, Toni Kallio, Sami Hyypia, Toni Kuivasto,
Ari Nyman, Janne Saarinen, Teemu Tainio, Markus Heikkinen, Pekka
Lagerblom, Jonatan Johansson (Daniel Sjolund), Mikael Forssell.
Czech Republic: Petr Cech; Zdenek Grygera, David Rozehnal, Tomas
Ujfalusi, Martin Jiranek; Karel Poborsky, Tomas Galasek, Tomas Rosicky,
David Jarolim, Vladimir Smicer; Marek Heinze.
